What does it mean to be a believer? Is it to check a list with things that are un-believable (like walking on water, having a virgin as mother, etc)? The more unbelievable things you check, the stronger your faith? I think that believing is a way of life; it is a process that continues throughout our lives. It is nice to be able to say, “I have accepted Jesus as my personal savior on Friday, April 3rd, 1996, at 4:13 p.m.” But what about the next hour, the next day, the next decade? As believers, we are on a journey, we make experiences, we learn, we are changed, we are inspired – and that is the attraction to become a believer.

What do YOU think? Where are YOU at?

Shut Up!

June 10th, 2009

Sometimes we just need to shut up! Our lives are so busy, the world around us is so loud that we have difficulties hearing our own voice, let alone God’s voice. Taking time for silence, for letting go of our minds, and opening for what God has to say to us is not easy, but it is necessary. Can we make our whole lives a prayer? How are YOU becoming aware of your place in the universe, how do YOU live your relationship with the Divine?

21st Century Christians

June 8th, 2009

Does the church still have a place in our modern world? What is its role? What do people mean when they say, “I am spiritual, but not religious”? How can we as Christians deal with people who have been hurt by the church, or those who want nothing to do with ‘organized religion’? Christian believers are called to be ‘salt and light’ in the world. How do we do that?

Taking the Bible seriously, not literally

June 8th, 2009

Is the Bible a divine product? Or is the Bible a human product, the result of many different faith experiences over a long time from two ancient cultures – the ancient Israel and early Christianity? Is the Bible the inerrant Word of God that should be read literally? Or is the Bible a book (or better yet a whole library) filled with God experiences that are so fundamental and strong that we still read and discuss them? Do we believe in the Bible, or is the Bible the finger pointing to the Divine? Which lenses do we use when we read the Bible?
